DearNadine – Homesickness

Hey lovely people! 🙂

At first I want to introduce you to my new column ‚DearNadine‘ which will contain a more serious range of topics also including things that are on my mind, it’s more serious and I will write about different topics which are on my mind. Of course if you want my help or you want to know how I deal with some serious subjects – You can write an E-Mail or of course on my social Network (IG: lnr.nadine). 🙂

Today’s theme is important to me because I think so many people suffer from homesickness and don’t know how to deal with it! Here you can find some hints to find more motivation for the following days, months and of course years!


To be honest at first I am often very homesick and very down when I know I have to leave my hometown for more than a few weeks. Even though I love traveling and want to explore more of the world. It’s not always so easy for me either. But my family and friends cheer me up and then it’s easier to go for a while! I always have homesickness before I go away, so afterwards it’s no big deal for me! 🙂

My personal 7 hints which helps me to get through this time.

1.DON’T HIDE YOURSELF

It’s very important to go out and do something. When you always sit in your room and remember how much you miss your hometown, it won’t make things easier for you!

2.TALK ABOUT IT

What really helps is to open up to someone and talk about your homesickness. Crying is absolutely okay! After shedding some tears you will feel so much better and you won’t think constantly about it.

3. MAKE NEW FRIENDS

Of course going out is important but making friends too! They’ll help you to think about other things and you’ll have fun with them. An additional thought as motivation is that friends you make in other towns, countries or continent are mostly those you will never lose because these friendships are very special.

4.DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

Watching series, working for my blog, taking photos distracts me from homesickness which helps me relax. Of course that’s only me. Everybody has different interests that relax them. for others is that boring or uninteresting.

5. EXPLORE THE WORLD

Put your shoes on and explore the town, village where you are living now! Visit the local church or a café and take a deep relaxing breath. Find your own little places of refuge where you are comfortable and feel like coming back to.

6. CONNECTION TO YOUR HOMETOWN

Nowadays, the internet is such a natural thing in our lives, so use it! Facetime, Skype, Whatsapp-call, and other different apps make contact to your loved ones at home a piece of cake.
Don’t call them too often tho, it won’t make things easier.

7. ENJOY YOUR LIFE – YOU ONLY HAVE ONE!

Last but not least enjoy the change of scenery! It’s pretty to see new fibres of life and you learn so many things.
